We have a very popular "Gardening" program on televison here call
Burke's Backyard ( http://burkesbackyard.com.au - it is more than just a
gradening show!).
Last night was the first for the new year and in its regular 'celebrity
garden' segment they featured Matt Shirvington, a Olympic hopeful
sprinter and Australian record holder. With sponsorships etc. he seems
to be making a decent living as was demonstrated by his new sports car
(Audi Quattro - fast car for a fast young guy) - but they also showed
how he had bought his father a sports car too. It was to repay his
father for lending him his Subaru all the time to get to training, he
said.
He bought him a pretty little, restored, red '68/69 MGB! The host
stated that this was the car that every young bloke wanted back then and
Shirvington said that his father always wanted one, so he bought it for
him as a surprise present!
They may have driven up in the Audi, but the 'B was the one they
featured, stroked and drooled over!!!
