If the lights dim when the warning light comes on then it is fairly certain
that you are losing charge at that point and it is not a faulty indication.
Could be dirty contacts in the regulator, or worn brushes in the genny.
Could be just a loose connection at either.  You could do with faulting it
properly before you go changing parts willy nilly.  Remember you may have
more than one fault.
