MGA Hood Pin

Hi all

I had one of those challenging weekends with the car.  I 
replaced the hood pin guide plate.  As you might guess
it wasn't aligned correctly and the hood wouldn't open.  To
make a long story short I removed the six front grill bolts 
and then removed the grill and then pooped the hood open.  

How do I properly align the hood pin with the guide plate
and lock to avoid this problem?
