Hi all

First, thanks for the welcome messages I received from several members of the
list. I received some through the list and also some as personal e-mail.
Personal e-mail is always welcome. If there is something of interest to the
rest of the people on the list, send it to the list too.

I earn a living as a welder. This doesn't necessarily make me an expert but
does give me some experience. There have been a couple of good replies to the
original post about MIG welders. Just a little something to add. Welders can
be bought at a variety of places. Such as local home repair type
places(Lowe's, Home Depot, etc), discount sales(I think even Walmart carries
them now), and welding supply shops. Most of the ones you buy in any of these
places will do a good job. But one possible problem, can you get parts for
them? Eventually you will need some kind of parts, tips for sure and maybe
others. You're going to have to go to a welding supply shop eventually to get
a gas cylinder to use with it. Check prices at any of the types of stores and
parts availability. Then hit the local welding supply shop and see what they
have. They might surprise you on competitive pricing and they service what
they sell. They keep parts in stock and you gotta go there occaisionally to
pick up a refill for your gas cylinder anyway. Everything in one place.
Lincoln and Miller are the two biggest brand names in welders. Most welding
supply shops sell one or both and both are very dependable.
