The 'gaskets' are infact ten-thou shims, often placed there to make up
for any head skimming that may have been done. The .010" lifts the whole
set of rockers, and is supposed to put the rocker-arms back at their
correct operating arc.
Having said that, I have found many 'B' series engines with just a shim
under the two middle posts, as if to bend the rocker shaft slightly in
service....or someone had forgotten the two outer posts!!
It is not a gasket, and I would think you can throw it away, as .010"
will not make that much difference, especially on a worn engine with the
wear those rockers get. I have never seen any reference to these shims
as a factory fitted bit, in 37 years of pulling engines to bits.
