According to my manual......The 1500 Midget has a 'Triumph' engine and (
Marina) gearbox. This gearbox uses 1.75 pints ( UK pints) of EP 90 gear
oil. The earlier BMC gearbox fitted to the 'A' series Midgets uses
engine oil, 2.25 pints of 20/50. If you use ordinary engine oil in a
gearbox that has gear teeth cut so they require EP ( extreme pressure)
oil, you will ruin it very quickly. Neil
