Heathrow is almost certainly the best choice for car hire and maybe
hotels. You will probably be landing there anyway. All the major
motorways are close by. It is the right side of town for Gaydon
,Beaulieu, Oxford, Stratford Upon Avon (near Gaydon), Stonehenge,
Salisbury etc. - max 1h 30min by car. 

Please don't do what alot of tourists do in London and carry your
camcorder around your neck however - it looks daft and may attract the
wrong attention.

Do try the English ales (served by a tall hand pump) especially the
ones from the smaller brewers . . . . .In London try Young's and
Fullers (do not confuse with Younger's).
