Does anyone know the significance of the "L" or "B" that is cast into
the left rear corner outside the valve cover of the MGB head? It is
opposite the "18" cast into the other corner. I have a 72 BGT with an
"L" head that is warped and my only spare has the "B" designation cast
into it. Are they interchangeable? The rocker shaft assemblies are
compatible, hence the oil galley for the rear pedestal is in the same
location. The "L" head does not have the engine id plate attached, it
was removed by the PO so I cannot identify its proper vintage. Both
heads were originally fitted with smog pumps but the "L" head has double
valve springs while the "B" head does not. Guess what I really need to
know is the exchangability of these heads.
