There is a guy here in Los Angeles, Mike Goodman, who owns a MG restoration
shop in Van Nuys that built an MGB roadster pickup out of a BGT that looks
real cool. The scuttle, windscreen and doors are from a roadster and the
lower part of the rear hatch was welded onto the rear body and cut off at
the beltline. The car is well finished and painted white with a dark blue
center stripe, interior, and toneau cover over the "bed" area. The rest of
the car looks like a stock, wire wheeled MGB.
As for your 2+2 conversion, there was a firm in the UK that made standard
floor, sill and lower door rust repair panels that realized that when you
were replacing all of this stuff that you had to literally cut the car in
half. So they started making a 2+2 kit that had sills and floor panels
that were a foot longer, Long doors and a quarter panel extention and added
a rear seat from an MGBGT. The car is a bit ungainly, kind of like a
Datsun 260Z 2+2 where the longer body makes the bonnet and boot look
somewhat short, but not unpleasent. I have never seen a photo of the car
with the hood up and can imagine that it would have to be as high and out
of proportion as a four place Morgan hood to allow much rear headroom.
