David,
My cousin has an 84 M-B 300D (same car, but not
a wagon). Same 5 cyl diesel engine, I'm sure
(all 300s have the same I think).
His has 250,000mi, going strong. He would drive
it anywhere. I know a little about the cars but
make sure the turbo is in good shape.
It's nothing like an MGB though!!! Good luck,
