How did the audio shop say the amp caused the the tape deck to bite the dust?

I'm curious, cause I'm at a loss at how an amp can fry a tape deck. They
are only connected by a set of RCA jacks and a turn-on lead.

Well, they opened the cover of the amp and started testing the little
electrical things inside with another little electrical thingie.
Sorry, I'm not electrically inclined, I don't know the specifics.
Anyway, they claimed that the RCA input jacks were somehow
malfunctioning and they were doing three things: accepting the signal
from the rear of my tape deck, sending it to the amplifier, and
finally, sending the amplified signal back to my tape deck, via the
RCA jacks. Don't ask me how it did it, but it did...85w per channel
WILL destroy your internal amplifier, no questions asked.
P.S. I went and bought another Jensen tape deck and a Sony amp from
another audio shop, after submitting my claim to insurance. Even if
they don't pay it, I needed a new one anyway...
