Buying an MGB..

A friend is looking to get an MGB as a second car.  I told him I'd help
him look so I have some questions for the list.  He wants a "small bumper"
car, are those 1973 and earlier?  And, we're in CA so I know '65 and 
earlier would be ideal as far as emission equipment (or lack of) is
concerned.  What should we look for when we check out cars?  Rust in
any certain areas?  Typical problems?  Any help is appreciated.
