I just had to reply to the group about this. I just posted an email stating
that one could reposition the distributor dog etc...
Then I read some more email on the subject of "tuning problems" on the
list. I realized that had I studied the situation a little more carefully,
all I would have had to do to fix my distributor being 180 degrees out of
phase would to have been to check that the TDC for #1 piston was the
'firing stroke' and not the 'exhaust' stroke!

The only knowledge of auto maintainence that I possess is what I've learned
while owning the MGB. After successfully conquering some operations that
originally seem overwhelming I find that I begin to acquire a
'self-satisfying/gratifying' feeling realizing that these problems were
solveable without having to have someone else physically help. In other
words, "I did it myself, AND it works!" After awhile I find I begin to
develop a "I know it all" attitude.

With the aforementioned problem, I jumped right in and stated that, sure,
you can reverse the distributor dog. But, had I been paying attention, or
really researching the situation, I would have found that the solution was
much easier; just a quick roll of the car to reposition the rotor for the
proper stroke and then a wire reroute.

Please accept my apologies to jump in and try to help when I might not know
exactly what I'm talking about. Humble pie sure tastes good today!!

Best regards,
Craig Wiper, early '74 B (which, by the way, can run fine with the
distributor dog REALLY 180 out of phase!)
