The painted wires were the most common, but I believe chrome was an
option during part of the production. A quote from "Original MGB" by
Clausager:
"Wire wheels, chrome-plated fitted to the first 200 cars built for North
American markets in 1962 but only quoted as a regular option on the GT at
introduction in 1965 and shortly afterwards on the roadster.
Discontinued in June 1971."
The book shows at least a couple of cars with this option. I've seen a
69 BGT with them.
