*** I got a ball-bearing release bearing for the `A at a local parts store.
The frame was *plastic*. Further investigation revealed that the plastic
frame tends to soften under heavy use. So I went and got another stock
carbon one.
One advantage of the carbon bearing is that its wear tends to cancell
out the wear of the clutch disk itself, keeping a more constant free play.
But the hydraulic mechanism is supposed to be self-adjusting anyway.
If I had the proper tools, I'd get a decent bearing and
machine out a new frame for it.
