Yes, I've tried that, in a vain attempt at convenience. I should have
known better. "Good things come to those that wait", and all that.

This is wrong. Both my owner's manual and the sticker attached to the
header rail proudly proclaim "Pull hood clear of frame when folding".
It makes a difference; the hood/top bundles up nicer when I pull it
clear.
