Pressures higher than a standard SU pump can overwhelm the float valve and
cause rich running, although I'd expect to go higher than 5psi before
getting problems, maybe he had a dicky float valve as well. Moprod make a
plastic bodied replica of the SU which should give the same output pressure
as an SU. I had one with electronic points but it got so unreliable I
replaced it with a refurbished points-type SU and have had no more trouble.
