The right side carpet should be two pieces.
One covers the foot ramp.
The other goes from the front of the seat, to the foot ramp.
As to installing the foot ramp, was installed for short people, giving
them something to brace their feet against when sudden braking.

Moss Motors sells the correct knob. Made of bakelite or plastic, an 
octagon
shaped knob, held in place by a wood screw from the inside of the glove
box door.
