Doug-
Not quite sure where it is leaking. Did you say on the side where the side
panels attach? Or is it on the bottom where the
gas line attaches or the drain plug? Or could it be the sensing unit?

If it is one of the sides where the side panels attach, the question is
whether or not someone re-tapped the hole for the
bolts at the side bosses. If yes they may have punched a hole in the side
of the tank.

If it is the bottom drain or fitting for the gas line you could add some
Teflon tape to the fitting or plug. These are straight threads
and also require a gasket for sealing.

If it is the sending unit the sealing surface may not be flat or did you
change the gaskets?

If it is actually a hole in the tank side or bottom you could try some JB
weld after first emptying the tank. The JB weld should be
compatible with gasoline.

You may want to perform a leak test of the tank before proceeding. Dave
Dubois recommends using a strong light, lowered into the tank
and observed in a dark room to see any pinhole or other leaks. I recently
performed a pneumatic leak test using air and soap solution to leak test
a TD tank. Both work.

The first step is to pin down the leak location or locations, then repair.
Leak test again before putting gas in the tank. Removing more that a little
gas from the tank is a real pain!!

Didn't think it would take long!

First time I filled up the TD petrol tank past a couple of gallons it sprang
a
leak - in spite of my having done the full POR15 thorough clean and seal
thing.

The gas is seeping out round one of the lower threaded widgets that the side
panel securing screws screw into.

As it does not show I am thinking a paint scrape and good dollop of JB weld
might do the trick - but perhaps not. Anyone any experience with this bit of
the of the car? How is the widget attached? Just welded on - or is there
something inside the tank it is attached to?

Thanks

Douglas
