FWIW: The only parts padded at the factory on a TD are the tops of the wheel wells, and the front of the tack strips to which the hood is nailed. The bolts holding the spare tire carrier go through this padded area. Horst went overboard. The original padding was a quite firm felt about 7-8 mm thick.
