Sort of related. I read a British motoring memoir a few years ago - can't
remember who it was by. At one point in the 1920sthe guy had been a chauffeur
to a titled lady who insisted her Roller was washed and polished for each
outing. As a labour saving ploy the chauffeur only ever cleaned the left side
of the car as that was the only side Madame ever saw as she entered or left
the vehicle.
