As a sort of Luddite, my motto is "simple by choice." Even I can understand
points, condenser, coil. But about 12 years ago or so, I had a lot of oild
coming up into my distrubutor and rebushing didn't help. So, I figured, what
the heck...I drilled a little hole in the housing to let the oil out and
installed a Crane unit. It looked flimsy and I didn't expect much, especially
since I had to do a bit of tinkering to make it fit. Obviously, kept (and
keep) the points and plate with the spares at all times. But in all those
years, not a sputter. The TD has run great with this set-up. The B, the
Midget, the TR-3, a small fleet of mid-sixties VW's, and a rather elderly BMW
motosickle soldier on as God intended: with points. Can I have my cake and
eat it too?! ;-}
