Problem: I removed the timing chain cover (after removing bonnet,
radiator, water pump, exhaust and sump pan) on my TD to replace the
front oil seal. I expect to receive today the replacement pulley (and
key), oil seal, and gaskets. In preparation for putting it all back
together, I have cleaned everything. That is when I noticed the holes
for the timing cover in the "engine bearer plate" are no longer aligned
with the threaded holes in the block. The block has dropped about 1/8
inch.Upon further investigation, with the seven timing chain bolts
removed I cannot see anything that is holding up the front of the engine
except perhaps it is pushing against the bearer plate. If this is true,
has this load bent my crankshaft???? I followed the manual (pg 1.14)
but is said nothing about supporting the front of the engine.
Now, how do I get the holes aligned so I can get the bolts into the
block? I am thinking about putting a hydraulic jack under the front of
then engine (not on the crank) to raise it up. But having no experience
in this area, I don't want to proceed until I get some words of wisdom.
Tell me my crank has not bent!
Thanks to one and all
