Kevin,
You shouldn't be to concerned about the ply rating on the tires. Bias
ply auto tires are generally 4 ply rated. 6 or 8 ply usually indicate
agriculltural or truck tires. And actually, they are really not that
good for automotive use. The heavier construction leads to a lot of
heat build-up at (relatively) high speeds.
You might check out some of the VW swap meets coming up in the next few
months - Beetles used the same tire size. -Or you might come to the
KCMGCC Cecil Kimber birthday party tomorrow night and see if Rob Camblin
has anything you could con him out of.
