Friends, being old ham radio operator (K6RTY) from the days when we built our
rigs from scratch, I have a thing for grommets that don't fit the chassis or
in our MMM case the firewall.
I'm not sure if all MMM cars have the same firewall thickness but in the case
of my NA, my original firewall thickness was .425". The repro that I have is
very close at .430".
There is at least two and sometimes three 1" diameter holes in the firewall.
The grommets that Mike Dowley sells fits the diameter OK but they are made to
fit a thickness of panel of .290"......not enough clearance and when you do
get them in, they "pucker"....so I searched around for some that would fit
better. Its hard to find grommets that fit anything but sheet metal panels but
I
did find some that fit a .500" thick panel. These are a little too big but
fit a lot better than Mike's grommets and they have more room for the wires to
go through.
In order to get the two that I needed for my car, I had to buy 35 of them, so
if anyone else would like 1" grommets, let me know.....they would be $1.50
each post paid.
I have not found a replacement for the 1.5" grommet which "puckers" even
worse than the one incher!!
Cheers
Terry

can run it next time and put an advert in the classified section)
