OK, I found the reference. It's The NAMMMR Technical Topics #2.1.1 bound
with the newsletter Spring 2001.
Basically, it says MMM engines were red.
Having said that, all I can say is that there were definite traces of a
darkish green on several engines I've examined, including a J2 block and
nosepiece I bought from Canada, and the engine that started this whole
silly discussion.
As a side note to Bob Rich: Now you've done it. It must have been
looking too long at your L1. I picked out what I thought was going to be
an appropriate red for the PB engine. After I got it home I read the
label. Yep, you guessed it: International Harvester Red!

Oh, wow.......here we go again! The only authoritative source that I
know
of for green engines is Barry Walker........except for Morris derived
engines
in the SVW range.......Lew, do you have any other references for green
engines in 4-seaters? I want to believe it because I prefer green
engines
and have a lot of paint left over from the SA!!
