Bishop Cam Steering Box

OK, can any of you folks that have the Bishop Cam Steering Box in your
MMM car tell me something?

 

The shoulder where the column bolts on to the steering gear has a brass
casting into which the steering column tube is fitted. Mine shows no
evidence of ever having been plated (unlike the column tube which IS
plated). Was this brass shoulder plated, painted, or left bare brass?
