Just went to the PRI show with Joe Timney and Donna.... ( yet another little
blind girl )... great time....
Mostly I checked out racing seats and picked up a Very nice English Wheel and
air powered shrinker / stretcher...
The Seat industry has come up with a bunch of ways to protect the head, they
want to control it laterally as well as fore and aft... and like Tom Bryant
mentioned in an earlier post they are also focused on maintaining the
shoulders and body while the head is held relatively still. For those of us
with lakester and streamliner type cages... there are some lateral head
supports that have dual cushions. Basically these fit inside the roll cage
and are about a foot long and 4" high... the inside has a layer of soft foam
and then the major structure is harder foam attached to an aluminum plate (
.125 thick )... covered by nomex.... they said racers differ on how close they
like this to their helmet... but most agree that around 1" on each side seems
normal.
For those of you in the SCTA .... ya all need to thank Roy Creel for doing a
great job of representing you at PRI.... the guy was everywhere learning about
safety, seeking sponsors and advertising and simply representing the SCTA in a
positive light.
