what about the ones that sound like a jackhammer as they leave the pits
(incl. Newman-Haas, as I recall)?  (I'm thinking that might have some
connection with the totally mangled clutch assembelies I see the clutch
specialists pulling out their hair over.)

That is the pit lane speed limiter..usually set just under the max speed
allowed
in the pit area. Driver leaves with foot to the floor and the switch on.turn
off
switch at the end of the pit road.. I don't think they have a speedo in a
cart
car LOL.. On a rough surface the engine will change note as you load and
unload
the engine. The higher the revs the harder to hear it though.
