Soldering

Hi all,

This was prompted by Neil's discussion ...

I've soldered my MegaSquirt EFI board, and noticed small white "blooms"
emanating from the soldering site. They don't dissolve in rubbing alcohol
(with an acid brush).

Solder: 96/4 Silver solder (no-lead) from Radio Shack (expensive)
Flux: Ruby Flux (paste in a yellow can)
Iron: Weller soldering station (non-adjustable) with fine pencil tip

I solder on the backs of the board (trace is on top). The blooms spread out
from the solder joint radially and look like a hard crystallized compound. I
didn't test for water solubility, but I will.

I've never seen this before.

Thought this would be an interesting thread.
