Well I got the Mule motor out of the Camaro tonight and did the initial tear
down to determine why it failed..... I'd suspected a oil system problem but
here is what I've found so far....

The oil pan came off even thou it had been hurt really bad by the rod
slinging around and taking out the Block just above the pan rail... When I
removed the oil pan it had Two lobes of the camshaft sitting in it....
further inspection revealed that the Cam broke right at the # 1 and 2 piston
rod area.... if your thinking the Rod took it out.... I'm thinking it's
possible... thou not likely as the rod is left in the bottom of the piston
and on the crankshaft like the cam came apart and then stuck between the
block and the rod allowing the rod to break..... I just find it odd that a
Carrillo rod which is free on the wrist pin and the crankshaft would break
in the middle arbitraily.... but stranger things have happened.... oh the
other thing I noticed was that the rod end on the piston has flared at the
breaking point like something hit it... ( picture the side of the H beam
rod being flared out like a V ) The piston is free in the block and the
portion of the rod on the crank not only spins freely it's got the right
amount of side play.....

The last thing that might help us solve this mystery is that the push rods
are straight as an arrow.... but Many of the lifter have the bottoms punched
out of them..... so I suppose it's possible that a lifter failed and stuck
the cam..... From initial inspection it's hard to see but it looks like
only 3 of the valves actually hit a piston when the cam quit moving....

Okay that's what I've found so far.... any thoughts from you guys?

Keith ( oh Glen.... hush up.... )( Morning Dan )
