Sorry Mayf, sure that the pump is PD, but the dry sump pumps have a
bypass valve that you set for max pressure/volume. Once achieved, there
is minimal additional HP required for pumping volume. There is
additional HP if you go up in RPM and you continue to pull a greater
vacuum, but it is not significant. Trick is to determine what
pressure/flow you want/need at max RPM. Many Winston Cup engine builders
will turn the pressure down on qualifying runs to the point of being
dangerous.
In my humble opinion, the dry sump system is the only way to run. I
don't know the exact numbers/ratios but I think the ratio of HP required
to HP acquired is about 8 to 12 times (i.e. if pump requires 3 HP then
you get 30HP in engine) You get no additional HP with a wet sump oil
system.
