Gene,
I was running a 4.10 in my Vette (yes, it's still IR), however I am running a ZF
6-speed. So far I haven't used 6th gear as 4.1 x .75 = 3.08, same as you. (I
shift into 5th at 8200 rpm and it drops to 6150 rpm - too much for El Mirage or
Muroc, but I can make up most of it on the long course) With the 4.10 it was
tapped out at the end of the 3, and gained nothing through the 4& 5. I switched
to a 3.73 (3.73 x .75 = 2.80 ) last year & had the same speed at the 1/4, but
gained 3+ mph through each timed mile with an exit of 215. So, those gears you
need ARE out there........ My neighbor has a 4.55 gear set which might be the
ticket for El Mirage.........
