That's correct, counter clockwise north--clockwise south. It has to do with
the rotation of the earth, Typhoons in the western Pacific and hurricanes in
the Atlantic spin counter clockwise. Cyclones in the south Pacific spin
clockwise. Winds flow west near the equater. In both the north and south mid
latitudes the winds flow east. This is easily seen these days on satelite
