It is not the cutoff switch because I replaced it twice over the years and
gave up with using one. Keep thinking I would rebuild the original one that
came with the car and never got around to it. Wonder if the new BJ8 cut off
switches from Moss are any good?
Must be something else in line under the dash,
Thanks Steve,
Bob Begani

The cutoff switch in the boot shorting out?
Something similar happened to me when I was 3000 miles from home.
Fortunately, the first time was temporary and I got home again before it
happened the next time.

My high torque starter stopped operating. Determined it is the solenoid, so
I will be removing it the starter for a bench test. Meanwhile, we
discovered an interesting electrical situation. When trying to start the
car the starter would short out and the electrical system would completely
shut down. In checking the battery connection, it was discovered
disconnecting and reconnecting the ground from the battery the electrical
system became live. There must be a GFI type of device in the wires to and
from the ignition switch. I doubt it was installed at the factory, maybe by
the restorer? What am I looking for under the dash? It is a great idea,
however I want to know what is it and where it is located.
