Could be your coil. I had a similar problem when I started up after a
rebuild. It was an oil filled Sports coil that had leaked its oil. It
failed when it became hot. I also noticed that the case was almost too
hot to touch.
It tested OK when cold but it appears that a simple test is not
sufficient.
