Welcome to the real world! I had a dentist once who charged one fee if you
had insurance and a lesser fee if you did not.

Listers,
After 55 years I required my first filling and now only two years later it
has already fallen out. Of course my dentist has retired and the new dentist
won't make good on the "other" guys work. OK, so I make an appointment and
wait for a week and during the course of the week the office staff call me
to confirm the appointment and to question my ability to pay for the work.
When I ask how much it will cost I'm told that it depends on the number of
points of attachment and that starts me thinking about clever ways to bill
dentists based on the number of turns per bolt (sorry I digress). Anyway I
go to the appointment this AM. First they have already lost my previous
records and now I'm wondering if this is a deliberate ploy to justify more
billable work. (the chip on my shoulder is getting bigger) Next the clerk
says I need my mouth x-rayed. I say, "What for is that for?" "We need to
X-ray your fillings" I explain that I don't HAVE any fillings and since I'm
in no pain I'm assuming the remainder of the tooth and root is healthy and I
only want the filling replaced. Clearly the clerk is not happy about this
and now tells me that she wants to take my payment before ANYONE has even
looked at the tooth (I'm recalling the number of points of attachment
discussion).
Well, I walked out. I am appalled at the way medicine has turned patients
into nothing more than a receivable. I am wrong?
Would you accept that from your health care provider? Is this what I can
expect from other dentists?
