Thanks for the input guys. The consensus is that they work but I still can't figure out just why they work. Since they are on the back side of the pad though, how do they effect the pad in a way to keep it from squeaking? I was once told that they work by changing the angle at which the pad meets the rotor. It's not perfectly flat at the point of attack anymore. This could be the old urban legend, however.
