Hi Tom,
Being a red and white wire it must be the instrument lighting wire.
It usually enters the end of a metal tube which is clipped into the back of
the gauge. The metal tube is the bulb holder.
You should be able to gently pry the entire tube completely out of the
speedo by inserting a blade at the point where the flange on the tube meets
the speedo.

I am removing the speedometer from my BJ8 to have it calibrated. There is a
red/white wire entering the top of the gauge through a inch long tube
attached to the body of the speedo. It seems to be attached via a spring
loaded white plastic insert, and I can't figure out how it comes out?
Thanks
Tom
