I did this on my '64 BJ8 back in '65 because 1) I drove crazy 2) It looked
good. 3) I was 16.
Bad news is that there was no way to install it without it coming up the
side of my head so I wrapped the posts in 1/4 inch wetsuite material. Also I
had to cut holes in the back seat and lost trunk space. It had to be short
or you couldn't get the top back up or the hardtop on. Still looked racy but
in all honesty if I'd been rear ended or rolled the bar would have killed me
before the crash did. I'm not doing it on my '67 BJ8 for those reasons.
Pretend you are driving a motorcycle and no one can see you. I'm not sure
you can roll a Healey unless you go off the road or hit a curb. I certainly
tried hundreds of times. I solved the steering wheel fear by installing the
4inch lap belts with double shoulder harness. You still had to cut holes in
the back seat for those. As far as the wind on the back of your head, that's
why you wear those British driving caps and a snoopy like scarf. I don't
know about your new convertible but the Healey doesn't seems to have nearly
as bad a back blow as newer cars do. It certainly doesn't bother me.

I don't see many cars with roll bars in them. I was wondering if there are
any
that people recommend. I'm not thinking that I am going to roll my car (I'm
more worried about the steering column going through my chest), but I was
thinking of stringing a screen inside the roll bar to stop the wind from
blowing on the back of my head. Like the new convertibles have.
Anyone done this?
