seat rails?carpet

Hello list: I'm getting ready to put new seat rails in and I can't remember 
if carpet goes in first or does the carpet get cut to fit around rails? If cut, 
do I do so to install from front or rear of rails? Cut and glue? Thanks. Ed B.
