The engine that was in the TR4A that I bought from Bob Kramer has the sleeved
tappet bores as pictured in a Kas Kastner book: these tappets have a diameter
of 22.17mm.(Standard TR2-4 tappets are 23.76mm, that is 1.6mm wider, so the
cams have 0.8mm more room)
A friend's TR6 engine I'm working on (for too long, but it will be ready before
New Yearr) has the enlarged bores to accept the wider tappets : the diameter of
these tappets is exactly the same, also 22.17mm. So I believe both are the
"GT40"/Ford tappets. The advantage is that there is a choice of these quality
Ford tappets. When you have the tappet bores enlarged in a TR6 engine, it is
important to mention to the machine shop that these bores are almost but not
dead vertical.

Onderwerp: Re: [Fot] "GT40" lifters
They are commonly used in the TR-2/3/4 block in
place of stock lifters by using a sleeve - in
this case they are smaller than stock. If you
use the cam developed by Larry Young you can't
use those lifters as he needs the full diameter
of the stock lifter. The Elgin cams work OK with them though.
I'd not heard of using them in a TR-6 until now though.
