John,
I actually have already drilled/taped/installed bolts thru the bottom of the
uprights but have still seen too many failures. Don't know how many of those
that have failed had the mod done to them but assume that some of the broken
uprights on race cars were done and still failed.
How did you mod the GT axle to fit the TR hub? You actually don't need to do
anything for the outer bearing as Timken lists one to do the job. The inner is
the problem. Did you cut the GT axle down to fit the TR bearing? About 60
thou would have to removed from the axle and doing that just sounds like a new
place for a stress riser with a stepped axle just as it goes into the
upright!
Guess this becoming a more difficult mod...was hopin for a simple bearing to
fit.
Lookin for the simple fixes in life...

I'll reply all to see if anybody out there thinks I'm crazy-
I have TVR Grandtura MK III '63--I use the Spit uprights drill out
the hollow lower ends [for grease] thread and install grade 5-8 bolts to
re-enforce-[must now grease by hand every once in awhile] Machine outer
GT-6 spindle to accept TR-3-4 hubs---worked for 7+ years. John Hagen
Merry Christmas!
