Having started out with an open trailer and then moving up to a closed
trailer, the closed trailer is the way to go. Tools and such can be securely
stored. When it rains there is a dry place to change or just sit. I started
out sleeping in mine, but my wife prefers the hotel, so we have not slept in
it for years. Off season it is a place to store parts or a car.
You do need a tow vehicle capable of pulling the heavier closed trailer. My
trailer (20' Haulmark) is all steel and it is over 3000 pounds empty. I had
an 85 chevy pickup with a 5.7 liter engine, when I first got this trailer and
it was not up to the task. Moved up to a 96 chevy with a 6.5 diesel and it
had a hard time towing the trailer up hills. Now have a 2007 chevy with a 6
liter gas engine and it does great.
If I had to do it over I would go with an aluminum closed trailer. Joe(B)

I am kicking around the idea of replacing my dual axle open aluminum trailer
with an enclosed trailer. Current trailer tows fantastic, mileage is great
and
you don't even know its back there. However having everything closed up
securely and having that enclosed room at the track sounds pretty appealing
to
me. Seems like there was some discussion a few years ago where people were
going the opposite way, dumping the enclosed and going to the lighter open
trailers. Any advice from those of you who have been doing this for a while?
Marty
