Somehow, I graduated from Bill Emery to Walt Emery. The W in my email
address stands for William. This name is too dignified to use in the US. If I
lived in Britain, I would probably have to go with my formal name, according to
our daughter who lived in London for many years. Nick names apparently are not
used in England.
<<Have any of the three of you seen any downside to simply replacing that
bypass valve with a plug?>>
I originally did this. My machinist, who builds stock car engines, felt that
the cold start bypass valve should not be completely defeated. Cold oil has
a harder time getting through the filter than hot oil. My guess is that the
bypass is a backup to assure that at least some oil is going into the galley at
this time. Also, it was mentioned that the filter might collapse.
Someone asked me why I went back to the stock oil filter, but I lost this
message. If I remember correctly, Hardy Prentice recommended doing this. I
believe that Greg is also using the stock filter.
