I did get caught out with this problem on my TR6. I never got a chance to
figure out what the problem was before I parked it. I thought it was the
master cylinder but this thread is a good point. I loaded the car up with
what I thought was front brake failure, 2 runs in a row, I came into a "fast"
section and planted my foot on the pedal and locked the rears and spun. It
all makes sense now.
What is interesting, I don't ever remember the problem of the soft pedal
happening before that last auto-x even at the old race track at Stapleton when
we tested there one day. not much of a test, after the 5th session I stuck an
exhaust valve and did $5500 worth of engine damage. that wasn't a good track
for small cars...
If I'm understanding this fix correctly it's a packing of spacers that fit
between the two bearings to help spread the load across the spindle? I have
some GT6 Stub axles available and spitfire ones for measurement if needed.

Subject: Re: Fix for TR brakes
This problem was typical for me while autocrossing TR4 in the 60s and 70s.
It has happened less with TR6 motovac set-up. Why, I dont know.
But often enough that it merits making it go away altogether.

I have not seen this problem yet, but I am using the GT6 hubs on my
spitfire...or I'm not driving fast enough yet...
