Subject: Fix for TR brakes
My recent FOT survey indicated that nearly everyone who races or
autocrosses a TR2 - 6 experiences the "dropping brake pedal" problem. Most
of us pump up the pedal on every straightaway to make sure where the pedal
will be for the next corner. My research reveals that the problem is caused
by deflection (bending) of the front stub axle, which causes the rotor to
knock back the pads and pistons. Even with flat rotors and properly
adjusted bearings, the problem can still be severe.
Mark Weathers (fellow FOT, more later) and I have developed a kit to
correct this problem. The kit consists of a set of spacers and shims that
go between the hub bearings to stiffen the whole axle / hub assembly. We
have tested prototypes on two cars in competition and find that the kit
eliminates 80 - 90% of the problem and completely transforms the braking
experience.
Mark is gearing up to make these kits and is making them available to FOT
listers at a really low introductory price. The initial run will be
available by the end of September. If you are interested, please contact
Mark immediately so he can set a run quantity.
This kit may be purchased from:
Mark@excalpm.com or Mark Weathers at 623-878-6800
Introductory price, to FOT members only, is $40 / set,
plus $5.00 shipping cost to anywhere in the USA via UPS ground (faster
delivery upon request)
Payment - cash or check within 10 days of shipment (Mark is a trusting soul)
Warranty: Return for full refund if not satisfied
PLEASE SPECIFY WHETHER YOU HAVE SOUTHWICK OR STOCK HUBS
We know that the FOT list is not intended to be used for commercial
purposes, but we feel that for such an important safety advance, the list
will not object to this announcement or the fact that the price does
include a small profit for the manufacturer.
Further introduction of Mark: FOT member Mark Weathers and his partner
Rick Harris own Excaliber Precision, a supplier of machined parts to the
aerospace industry. Their website is
www.excalm.com.
Mark has owned a TR6 since high school and being a racer and incurable
tinkerer feels morally obligated to use the CNC capabilities of his shop to
make Triumph parts! Future possible TR3 - 6 projects include stiffer front
stub axles, aluminum timing cover with cam access panel, adjustable camber
plates for TR4A-6 rear trailing arms, and other parts that FOT may suggest.
