Hello guys,
six weeks ago I was on these pages extolling the virtues of Team Triumph in
Warren Ohio as a resource for keeping us running. I bought a crank and a
narrow port Triumph head at a good price with good service. I still think
they are an asset every Triumph owner should have on their phone list with
one caveat.
When I received the head and the crank they were very poorly packaged being
merely stuffed in a single layer cardboard box with newspaper stuffed around
them. Both pieces were breaking out of the cardboard; as many will attest,
UPS is rough with packages. But it is cast iron after all so how much damage
can they do?
My head builder called last week and reported the relatively rare narrow port
six cylinder head is cracked at the rear water jacket passage, presumably
from impact damage. I'm confident it was done by UPS but since I didn't save
the box they're not interested. Not surprisingly Team Triumph is also not
interested as it was a good head when it left their dock. They can't say
when it was cracked but it wasn't cracked when it left their hands.
The point...Use TT but stress with every order that it be well wrapped and
cushioned to survive the rigors of being literally TOSSED by the UPS demons.
I've got to swallow the loss but a bit of foresight could limit similar
tragedies in the future.
