I don't mean any disrespect to your welder friend...
Please pay attention to the rules bodies with respect to the material in
the cage. Currently the GCR reccommends various size pipe depending on
the weight of the car, but there's also cautions about the welding
process. I'm most certainly not an expert welder, but I recall the
wording to be something like "chrome moly tubing is not recommended as
the welds must be stabilized" or something to that effect.
Bottom line - they suggest DOM tubing.
