Dean is right - the instructions work great if followed - that said it is a
pain. Kevin D and I (well mostly Kevin) put mine in earlier this year.
The trick is a) to get all the molding in - requires a lot of soapy water and
careful sliding of the moulding into the rubber grooves, and then the tricky
bit is to get the 'back' of the moulding over the 'lip' of the windshield.
We found that the waxy string (it seems to have no rough edges that might tear
the rubber) that Home Depot offers for free to tie stuff to your car worked
beautifuuly. Wrap it around (inside the inner groove) with plenty to spare so
that you have two or so feet overlap at each end (they cross over) and then
gently pull the rubber over onto the lip. The hardest part was lining up the
moulding the 'insertion' was easy. And Dean's rubber correctly gives you the
'sharp' corners as opposed to the rounded ones. It seems to be better as a two
person job (one to pull the string, the other to push (gently) the windshield,
though others may have done it solo.
When I decided to remove mine for painting, I found that the PO's 'experts'
had used so much rubber 'glue' that you could have made a spare tire from it
(thus I had to trash it, to Dean's gain <G>) . Correctly installed, it can be
removed and replaced with the same effort as before.
BTW - since you may have to do it again, you might as well spend some time
doing some serious polishing of the moulding - stainless comes up beautifully
when polished with fine grits (2000+).
